Golden Desert Super League names Troy Jackson Jr. as commissioner

The Golden Desert Super League, a new professional basketball league launching in 2027, has named Troy Jackson Jr. as its inaugural commissioner.

Jackson, a former professional standout with a global playing career and an expansive network across the basketball industry, will guide the league as it seeks to reshape professional basketball. He brings more than a decade of international playing experience, along with leadership, vision and firsthand understanding of the game at every level.

“We’re not here to copy what’s been done,” Jackson said. “We’re here to redefine what a professional basketball league can look like.”

The GDSL is being built as a player-first league that provides sustainable opportunities for athletes, coaches and ownership groups across the country.

“We’re creating a league where players come first — not just on the court, but in their careers, brands and futures,” Jackson said. “This league is giving ownership back to the people who live and breathe the game — the players, the coaches and the communities.”

The league plans to launch its inaugural season in 2027 with 12 to 16 independently owned teams and a structured path to expand to 24 teams in future seasons. The GDSL model aims to generate significant opportunities across the basketball landscape.

“We want to create more than 200 jobs for owners, coaches and players,” Jackson said.
“We’re building something scalable, something global — but we’re doing it the right way, city by city, foundation first.”

Teams are already in development in key markets, including Kentucky, Memphis, Florida, Colorado, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The GDSL is positioning itself as a national platform rooted in regional identity and community engagement.

“GDSL is culture. It’s where high-level competition meets real identity — every team, every city, every player has something they represent.”

The league will emphasize community impact through youth programming, mentorship initiatives, and local engagement, ensuring each franchise becomes a meaningful presence within its market.

In addition to men’s professional competition, the GDSL has plans to expand into women’s basketball, further advancing opportunities and representation within the sport.

“There are no gimmicks,” Jackson said. “This is freedom to play real basketball.”

The league is backed by Desert Crown Sports Group, a collective of investors focused on building sustainable, community-driven professional sports platforms.

Jackson’s appointment is part of a five-year, $125,000 commissioner contract, a structure designed to prioritize long-term league development and stability while allowing for strategic growth in the league’s early stages.

His role includes identifying markets, collaborating with ownership groups, and establishing league-wide standards.

“This league was built for now — and built to last,” Jackson said.
